There is a quiet pressure in business to always be doing. Even rest can start to feel like something you have to earn on your to-do list. I will rest after this launch. I will rest when my to-do list is empty. I will rest after everyone else is taken care of.
Sumantha:But what if rest is not a reward. What if it is actually part of your process. Some of our best ideas, clarity and motivation come when we step away. Not because every box is ticked, but because we have given ourselves space.
Sumantha:Every time I go on holiday, I get my best business ideas. I feel more inspired and more motivated, not just in business but in life as well. That is not a coincidence. It is because I am interrupting my normal routine and giving myself space.
Sumantha:I once spoke to a client who kept pushing through long days because she did not feel like she had done enough to justify time off. When we looked at her week properly, she had actually done so much. She was holding herself to a standard that ignored her capacity.
Sumantha:Now I spread my to-do list across my week based on my calendar in a realistic way. I also schedule breaks. At first, they had to be in my diary to happen. You do not need to reach breaking point to justify rest. Your wellbeing and clarity are reason enough.
